• About Save the Children

  Save the Children works in 120 countries. We save children’s lives. We fight for their rights. We help them fulfil their potential. Save the Children is working in Nigeria because one in five children in Nigeria dies before their fifth birthday. About 40% of children miss out on school and have to work to survive while nearly 2 million children have lost one or both parents to an AIDS-related disease.

  today a strong, recognized voice for children’s rights.  We focus on health and nutrition, education, hunger and livelihoods, child rights governance and child protection. We work closely with partners to develop sustainable, replicable solutions to ensure that children receive decent basic necessities of life to reach their potential.

  Working with partners, Save the Children reached 8,610,607 directly and an additional 14,246,801 indirectly through multi thematic programmes in 2013. This represents 800% increase in total reach compared to 2012, with a total expenditure of USD 16,929,428; a 30% increase from 2012. Five new projects were added to the country portfolio resulting in income growth and increased geographic coverage to 16 States in Nigeria.

  Through our Advocacy and Campaign programmes, Save the Children, along with partners (including children) advocate for a wide variety issues that could have negative impact on children. In 2013, Save the Children, along with partners UNICEF, WHO, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) advocated for a review of the National Strategic Routine Immunization (RI) Plan (NSRIP). Advocacy for the National Health Bill through the Health Sector Coalition saw the bill presented for its third reading on the floor of the Nigerian Senate. A campaign on Exclusive Breast Feeding is also one of our key organizational agenda.
