Introduction

This article is aimed at sharing insights on the salaries and salary structure of Engineers and various aspects of the Engineering Profession in Nigeria. First however, let’s consider what engineers really do and the various aspects of the profession.

Generally, engineers use the laws of nature to create and refine the artifacts of modern life. They seek, through ingenuity and invention, to fashion a more livable world. As a profession, it is quite broad as it covers a wide range of applications and industries. Combining mathematics, science and technology, engineers produce creative solutions to real-world problems. As a result of these, there are various types of engineers which in turn forms a major part of the determinants of their salary structure.

A study shows that there are about forty (40) different types of engineering degrees that an individual could choose from to study in the University and ultimately pursue a career path in. However, for the purposes of precision, and location specificity, we will be considering the top engineering areas prevalent in Nigeria. They include the following;

It is empowered to keep a register of all Engineering craftsmen, technologists, Engineers and Engineering Firms who wish to practice in the country. No individual or organization is allowed to practice Engineering in Nigeria without the approval of COREN.
